The 7 Hidden Habits Holding You Back (Even if You’re “Winning”)
Apr 01, 2025
Not long ago, I was making six figures, winning awards, and carrying the title of top performer.
And I was miserable.
I didn’t say it out loud, because men like me aren’t supposed to struggle. I was building a great life for my family—at least that’s what I told myself. But in reality, I was building my empire. I was addicted to the hustle, craving the recognition, and ignoring the damage I was doing to my marriage, my health, and my soul.
That’s when I discovered something that changed everything: success in business doesn’t automatically translate to success in life.
And for many men, it’s the hidden habits—the ones no one else sees—that are quietly dismantling everything they’ve worked for.
The Cost of “Winning” at the Wrong Game
High-performing men—especially those driven by faith and purpose—often face a unique tension:
You're achieving externally, but internally you feel off, distant, or just flat.
That’s because underneath the surface, there are 7 destructive habits that creep in without warning:
- Misplaced identity
- Success at all costs
- Lack of boundaries
- Emotional suppression
- Isolation in leadership
- Neglecting the inner life
- No scoreboard at home or in your health
You might be nailing it at work but completely lost at home. Or you're pushing hard in business while ignoring the emotional weight you’ve buried for years.
These habits form slowly. They look like “commitment,” “hustle,” or “stoicism.” But in reality, they’re killing our potential—and everything we say we care about.
Why the Usual Fixes Don’t Work
So what do most men do?
They double down.
They buy another book.
They “grind harder.”
Or worse, they ignore it and tell themselves it’ll all balance out eventually.
But here’s the truth: You can’t fix a problem you refuse to name.
I tried all the typical strategies—time-blocking, new workout routines, productivity hacks. None of them addressed the deeper issue: I was living out of alignment with who God had called me to be.
A Better Way Forward
That’s why I created the G.A.P. Framework—Grounded in Faith, Authentic in Action, and Purposeful in Pursuit.
When you understand your God-Aligned Purpose, everything changes. You stop chasing every opportunity and start living from identity, not for it. You don’t just work harder—you work differently. You begin defining success not just by revenue or recognition but by impact, integrity, and legacy.
And when you live in alignment with the Five Pillars of Greatness—Faith, Relationships, Health, Finances, and Business—you start to experience a peace and power that hustle alone can’t produce.
Here’s Your Next Step
If any of those 7 habits hit a nerve, don’t brush them off. Awareness is the first step to change.
👉 Take the Five Pillars of Greatness Assessment to identify where you're thriving—and where you're falling short. It’s free, fast, and will give you practical steps to move forward.
