Why 'Wounds' Still Matters

Apr 22, 2025

I want to take a moment to share with (or remind) you why I wrote Wounds: How Hurt, Heartache, and Tragedy Become the Keys to Unlocking Greatness.

Six month into the writing process, I nearly gave up on writing this book.

I’d already poured months of work and tens of thousands of dollars into it. I had a solid draft about my coaching philosophy—something polished, packaged, and...pointless. At least it felt that way to me. I wasn’t looking to write a glorified business card. I didn’t want a book that checked a box or padded a resume.

When I hit that wall, my writing coach asked me a simple but powerful question: “What actually matters to people when they talk to you?”

That cracked something open.

The answer? My story. The real, messy, redeemed one. The one with pain and addiction, near-destruction in my marriage, struggles with identity, and the wounds that shaped my life. Not because my story is special, but because it’s true. And when I share it, others lean in—not to admire me, but to see themselves. To feel seen. To find hope.

That’s why I started over and wrote Wounds.

It’s not a book about having it all together. It’s about how our deepest pain can become the path to our greatest purpose. It’s about how God can use even the most broken parts of our story for healing, redemption, and impact.

So if you’ve read it—thank you. I hope it encouraged you.

If you haven’t, I want to invite you to now.

Whether you're facing your own wounds, walking beside someone who is, or just ready to live with more authenticity and purpose—I believe Wounds will meet you right where you are.

You can grab the paperback or listen to the audiobook if you prefer to hear it in my own voice.

And if you’ve read it already, would you consider passing it on to someone who needs it? You never know what breakthrough might begin on the other side of a page.
